New Converts God is always wanting people to turn their lives around and to come to him. As a new convert there is always much to learn and it takes time to grow spiritually. In the meantime Satan is still trying to win you back, and the temptation might be great enough so that you would return to your old life. Here in 1 Timothy there are guidelines for deacons and overseers to meet in order to become one. It is listed here that the person must not be a recent convert. To be a deacon or overseer you must be very spiritually mature and know the bible very well. You must have followed God for a quite a while so that you wont convert back to your old ways. You have to be a person of great christian upstanding and represent God in the highest honor. It is quite important to meet strict standards to become a deacon. Deacons must live a righteous life and set the standards for other Christians. It can take years of bible studies, church groups, and church in order to get to the level of being a deacon. When you achieve that goal, it is such a proud time, and well earned, and recognized by God. Most deacons put in years of serving because their heart is with God. 1 Timothy 3:6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.
