#New In Town #Food #Events #nightlife #Delhi #GK2 Ahoy! Asia’s menu is a loud shout out to the Far East. The brightly-lit restaurant is decked in oranges and greens, and its list of dishes – that include Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese – seems to aspire to the same boldness. The staff here is extremely well-trained; enthusiastic, informed and helpful, they deserve a special mention and the restaurant seems like a happy place to eat and work. How can it not be, with a name that brings to mind jolly exploring ship captains? Our cruise through the extensive and slightly confusing catalogue of food threw up some fun options. We chose a surprising starter of walnut pesto prawns with gently cooked grilled seafood. Seasoned with a heavy pesto sauce, it was an unusual serving for a pan-Asian restaurant, but in the best sort of way. Unusual, we soon learned, was par for the course here. Though we played safe with our second starter (crispy honey lotus stems), the drinks once again, were original. A plum soda, thick with fruit and beautifully tangy, is the perfect summer refresher, and the virgin piña colada they made was garnished with coconut shavings and was frothy and brilliant. We’d recommend you veer clear of the thyme, orange and tamarind cooler though; the combination was rather grating, each element too strong for a harmonious mix. The rest of the meal continued in much the same vein. A Japanese pizza (Okonomiyaki), with an egg base and a thick layer of mayo and soy sauce on top, was a curious mix of flavours and texture. We were pleased by its novelty, though it would have been vastly improved without the heavy mayo topping. The crispy lamb with sweet bean chilli could similarly have done with some perking up – a sauce would have helped the slightly dry dish, which should have been a starter in its current avatar. Still, the food was thoughtfully created and perfectly palatable. Including the gigantic portion of darsan served with ice-cream and the mango sago – a fruit and cream dessert from Hong Kong. Next time round, we plan to check out the Asian style burgers, chicken wing kebabs and ribs; things may not always be perfect here, but they’re certainly very interesting.
