New Indian Hill football coach Tony Arcuri will lead his team in Hits on the Hill Aug. 8. INDIAN HILL – To christen the beginning of his program and the new surrounding fields, Indian Hill High School football coach Tony Arcuri and staff will put his Braves through a public practice. Call it a dress rehearsal on Aug. 8. Better yet, call it fan practice. In an effort to ramp up the Friday night scene at Tomahawk Stadium, Arcuri and the Indian Hill Touchdown Club plan to show off the new baseball and softball fields being constructed, while allowing Braves faithful to take in a choreographed practice on the football turf. We thought, Lets create a venue where our parents can come and legitimately be involved in a practice, Arcuri said. I think its worth it to get people involved and to get people excited about football. Weve got tailgating and food trucks coming. The goal is to produce a fun and festive environment. The band and cheerleaders will be on hand and Arcuri will provide an uptempo experience. You only get so many minutes, he said. When some of your kids play both ways and you have to teach them two positions; you have to use every second to teach. I hate to use 15-20 minutes just to run them. If you practice uptempo and structure it where everyones getting coached, theyre going to get more conditioning than they need. Braves coaches now are bouncing from station to station and enduring their own aches and pains in the evenings. A trim 41 year old, Arcuri is not beyond reminding some of his players that hes in better shape. More will be included in an upcoming fall preview of Indian Hill, but the team will switch to the Wing-T offense, run most notably by the Division II champion Loveland Tigers. Arcuri coached with Lovelands Fred Cranford at Fenwick and Jim Vanatsky has come over from Loveland to help in the transition. Vanatskys freshman son, Danny, is vying for the quarterback job along with sophomore Reed Aichholz. After the hot dogs and cheeseburgers along Aichholz Alley (Indian Hill has allowed boosters to temporarily buy naming rights to the driveway that leads to Tomhawk Stadium), fans will see their favorite players in their new black helmets. Though a young team, the goal is to get the squad to the championship form they had when they won five consecutive Cincinnati Hills League championships from 2004-2008. After the Aug. 8 pigskin preview, Arcuris army will test the bells and whistles for real on Aug. 29 against New Richmond.
