New NKT™ student working at the Arnold Classic. I had the luxury of working the Arnold Sports Festival this weekend. As this was my fourth year- treatment looked a lot different employing a short case history, SFMA, and some crazy NKT findings! A female athlete came to me with chief complaint of bilateral wrist as well as bilateral lateral delt pain. Onset occurred upon catching a heavy front rack in the bottom of her clean/jerk. After dropping the bar and bailing out, she stated the pain has been constant for a month. She admitted not being able to put weight above head in training since and was considering pulling out of the competition. SFMA minor patterning asymmetries namely in single leg stance (which I also addressed successfully) but after putting her in a front rack position and seeing her squat did we find more. She added the pain is bad with wrist extension but it is terrible when my thumb is on the bar (extension) too. The Linch Pin came to be Wrist Flexion inhibiting Ex Pollicis Longus bilaterally with a few other relationships present. After the find we did a few releases and activations and BOOM! Her eyes got big, moved her wrists around and drops in to a butt to floor front rack position. No Pain! I said easy, lets go get a bar and see how weight feels... We have to make sure it holds. Well I dont recommend Olympic Weight Lifting right after a session but lets just say she qualified for Pan Ams without putting weight over her head during training the past month. Never in my wildest dreams before NKT would I have considered such a thing causing so much pain/dysfunction. Thanks, David. And Thank YOU NKT Community!
