New judge named to southern Illinois appeals court A former southern Illinois circuit judge has been named to a state appeals court.As the newest member of the Mount Vernon-based 5th District Appellate Court, First Judicial Circuit Judge James Moore will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Stephen Spomer.The 5th District appeals court covers 37 counties in southern Illinois.Moore was appointed to the bench in 2007, succeeding Bruce Stewart after Stewart was elected to the Mount Vernon appellate court.Moore received his law degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1977 and later worked as an assistant city attorney for Carbondale.(Copyright 2014 The Associated Press.
