New ‘plain-talking’ Emunah chair elected June 18, 2013 A woman from Hampstead Garden Suburb known for her plain talking and hands-on approach has been named as the new chair of British Emunah after the charity’s AGM was held on 17 June, writes Stephen Oryszczuk. Hilary Pearlman, who spent 29 years living in Sunderland, was described as a popular choice. She praised her predecessor, saying that Camille Compton, who is retiring, would be “a hard act to follow”. Based at Shield House in Hendon, Pearlman will now build on Compton’s work, as the charity enters its 80th year. She is keen to encourage the next generation and recently formed a ‘Young Emunah’ division. “I am very excited about taking on this role – it is a tremendous privilege,” Pearlman said. “We have unprecedented challenges that lie ahead. In Israel today, the divide between the haves and have-nots continues to widen, with middle-class families experiencing poverty for the first time. Our emphasis will focus on ensuring that children are afforded all the care, education and opportunities they deserve.” Emunah recently honoured Lady Elaine Sacks at a special lunch, also attended by Michael Portillo, that Jewish News are featuring as a picture gallery.
