New roof installed at the Mailbox as part of the £50M redevelopment. The completion of the new glass roof marks an exciting milestone in the £50M redevelopment of the Mailbox. David Pardoe, retail manager at the Mailbox, said: We’ve reached another exciting milestone in the redevelopment of the Mailbox, as our brand new roof has been installed! Following customer feedback, the sky-lit glass roof has been built to protect our visitors from the unpredictable British weather, creating a light and airy setting as we move a step closer to completion ahead of the exciting re-launch in Spring 2015. The new roof has been installed to create a new 70m long “Urban Room,” which is designed to function as an internal public space, capable of hosting various events, exhibitions and other social activities. It will also protect visitors from the rain while they shop at one of the luxe brands, including Hugo Boss and the brand new 45,000 sq ft Harvey Nichols store located at the heart of the building. Gavin Henderson, Director at Stanton Williams in charge of the Mailbox redevelopment, says: “The Urban Room is envisaged as an internal urban space, much as an Assembly Room would have been in the eighteenth century, or the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall is today. It will play an important role within the on-going regeneration of Birmingham’s public realm.” A further boost to the impressive retail, food and beverage line-up will be the new luxury three screen 12,000 sq.ft. Everyman cinema which is set to open in Jan/Feb 2015. The redevelopment will also see the completion of 50,000 sq ft of high quality office space. (Video: Mailbox)
