New short course – Improve your sewing skills It will be starting Thursday 14 August for 6 weeks Cost $165 2.5 hours each night, from 6 – 8.30pm in G174. Tutor – Cheryl Downie Each week there will be a different topic with a personal project for the last 2 weeks, details as follows:- 1. Know your sewing machine (bring your own or use ours) including sample sewing, seam allowances, sample pockets etc, explaining threads, needles, equipment, zips 2. Know your own overlocker (ditto above), mostly doing samples learning to use overlocker for newbees and tips & techniques for those more skilled. 3. Understand commercial patterns – looking and understanding the language of guide sheets, sizing, easing, measurements, pattern information (darts, notches seam allowance, grainlines etc), fitting 4. Fabrics & textiles – find out about wovens, knits, fibres, grainlines, layouts 5. Own project – choose a project to do under supervision. 6. Own project – choose a project to do under supervision.
