News Flash - Virgin Australia launches first premium exit lounge! The Virgin Australia lounge at Melbourne Airport has a new feature in the form of Australia’s first “premium exit”, a dedicated private security screening point that will minimise connection times for Velocity Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyer members, lounge members and business class passengers flying out of Melbourne. The exit will give passengers decreased transit times to the departure gates via two private screening lanes that connect to a direct pathway to gates one to 10. Whether passengers are in a rush or want to relax in the recently upgraded lounge for longer before connecting to their next flight, the lounge will ensure easy access for the airline’s valued frequent flyers. Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer chief executive officer Neil Thompson explained that the airline remains committed to improving customer service and enhancing the flying experience for those customers that remain loyal to Virgin by implementing premium services for Gold and Platinum members. Following on the heels of the lounge’s stylish upgrade earlier this year, the development showcases the increasing importance of airport lounges to Australians and their travelling experiences. Recent research commissioned by the airline has found that Australian frequent flyers spend nearly 90 hours a year on average in airports, with frequent travellers in Melbourne alone spending up to 83 hours in the airport every year. The premium exit service also follows the successful implementation of Australia’s first kerbside “entry lounge” at Sydney airport in 2011, significantly decreasing arrival time at the airport for business and premium clientele.
