News Release - July 18, 2014 Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia visits 19 Wing Comox - Honourable Judith Guichon meets members of Canadas West Coast Air Base 19 WING COMOX - The Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, paid a visit to 19 Wing Comox on July 18, 2014, where she learned about the operational responsibilities of 19 Wing Comox, one of the busiest wings in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Quick Facts * Her Honours day began at the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre HMCS Quadra, located at the 19 Wing Comox Goose Spit site. She served as the Reviewing Officer for approximately 90 cadets on the General Training Course graduation parade. * Her Honour was accompanied by Rear-Admiral William Truelove, Commander of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific during her visit to 19 Wing. * Following the Sea Cadet parade, Her Honour was taken on a tour of 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron where she learned about the CP-140 Aurora aircraft. She was also briefed on the squadrons important role in patrolling Canadas Pacific Ocean approaches and the high arctic region, as well as its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities in support of Canadian Armed Forces missions abroad. * The visit concluded with a tour of 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron. This squadron is the Victoria Joint Rescue Coordination Centres primary means for aviation search and rescue responses in the Victoria Search and Rescue Region. Her Honour learned about the CC-115 Buffalo aircraft, the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and the capabilities of the crews that operate them. * During the visit, Her Honour had the opportunity to meet several of the 1500 military and civilian personnel who work at 19 Wing Comox. * In addition to its two operational flying squadrons, 19 Wing is home to 19 Air Maintenance Squadron and a national training school; the Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue. Enabling flying operations are the comprehensive Administration, Logistics and Engineering, and Operations Branches. The Wing also supports cadet training at the Regional Cadet Gliding School (Pacific) and at the summer Sea Cadet Training Centre, HMCS Quadra.
