Willie Campbell ‘the gig you want’ Lewis musician Willie Campbell says performing at Hebridean Celtic Festival is ‘the gig you want to do’ if you’re an island musician. Willie will perform songs in Gaelic from his new album Dalma, as well as earlier material, with an unknown number of musicians from The Open Day Rotation at HebCelt. He said: “The invite to HebCelt couldnt have come at a better time. Its a fantastic platform for the album. Theres a crowd of music fans, but to add to that, there is also a strong interest in Gaelic culture tied into the festival, so Im very hopeful the audience will be receptive to the material well perform on the day. Its just an incredible event to have on the island. If youre a musician from the region, its the gig you want to do.” Open Day Rotation’s numbers are flexible and Willie is still unsure how many will be on stage at HebCelt: “Im still deciding how big the line-up will be. The core of the band will be eight, but I expect maybe 15.” Big thanks to Little Lochies The director of Barnardo’s Scotland has sent a big thank you to Little Lochies, who raised £180 for Barnardo’s in Big Toddle events last year. The nursery children took part in the annual event in 2013, and director Martin Crewe says he hopes there’ll be similar interest this year. Martin said: “The amount raised illustrates the generosity and enthusiasm of people on Lewis for helping other families. Children love dressing up and if they thought our 2013 ‘characters’ theme was fun, I am sure our theme for 2014 – outer space – will be a great success.” Anyone interested in taking part in the next Big Toddle can find everything they need by visiting bigtoddle.co.uk or calling 0800 008 7005.
