Newspapers are the beating heart of all media journalism. I cant tell you how often the assignment desk at the local TV station relies on the newspapers for stories. They had to, because only newspapers have the resources to investigate with that level of depth. Every community needs competing news outlets to keep each other honest and urgent. They keep one another on their toes. Plus the Deseret news shouldnt be allowed to get away with killing the more profitable and successful of the two daily papers through means of shady backroom business dealings. This petition DOES make a difference, because it gives ammunition to the legal case that representatives of the Salt Lake Tribune are bringing to the justice department.
