Nice sentiment, but disingenuous. Carter started the US support of the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan, one of the origins of the terrorist threat our government inveighs against today. He was a cold warrior that began the Reagan increase in the defense budget, including the creation of the B-2 stealth bomber. He appointed Paul Volker to head the Federal Reserve, the architect of the 80s Reagan Recession. Carter also failed the AFL-CIO on labor law reform and the Hyde Amendment began its sorry history with his approval. Granted, wearing a sweater and putting up solar panels are good things. And Habitat for Humanity and overseeing elections are far better occupations for an ex-President than self indulgent painting. There are better and worse presidents, but the bipartisan right wing consensus will continue getting worse until our movements once again begin to shake the halls of power.
