Nicholas Chow Johnson was born on December 27th, 1981. He was a beautiful baby, with dark brown hair with blond streaks ! He was gorgeous ! He still is. I love Nick with all my heart and soul. He is a part of me, and so is his brother, James. Nick was so much like me, his mother. He was friendly, generous, outgoing, warm, loving, caring, adventurous, fun-loving and very much a people person. In one of our travels together, to Hong Kong, James, Nick and I were walking on a busy street, when Nick turned back and gave some money to a lady beggar, whom he saw but we didnt even noticed. Nick was very athletic too. He learnt how to ride a unicycle with his friends in the neighborhood. He was an excellent hip-hop dancer. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nick and James went to a night club with my friends daughter. When Nick did the hip hop dance, everyone on the dance floor stopped and looked at him. After his trip to Malaysia, when he came back to Toronto, he wanted to learn Chinese. He went to the Harbord Collegiate for the evening Chinese classes. Nick and James were in the French immersion schools and when Nick finished his grade six, he went to Gabrielle Roy, a Francophone school. In 19 , he went to Victoria, BC, to stay with his aunt for his grade 12. One night, in October, 2001, when Nick was out by himself, he was viciously, brutually, violently attacked by a gang of hoodlums. He was hit from behind and when he fell, they kicked his brains out. The neuro-surgeon who operated on him told us that Nick has irreversible, permanent brain injuries. I find it hard to comprehend such random acts of violence, but thats life. If youre in the wrong place, at the wrong time, too bad for you. The evil kids who did this to Nick were sentenced to two years in jail- they were young offenders. Nick and I and his family have the life sentence of grief, pain and anguish.
