Nigeria: Ebonyi Impeachment - Nwaobashi Group Obeys Court Ruling, Attends Sitting By Peter Okutu ABAKALIKI--SOME members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly loyal to Helen Nwaobashi group of the House Tuesday attended a plenary at the State House of Assembly, following a court ruling which dismissed the application brought by her group seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain Mr Chukwuma Nwazunku from parading himself as speaker. In her ruling, the judge, Justice Chinyere Ken-Eze, maintained that the status quo before the impeachment of the first defendant on July 21 be maintained, pending the determination of the substantive suit. Four of the 13 members loyal to Helen Nwaoboshi group that attended the sitting include Mrs Lilian Igwe, Ikechukwu Ogbu, Jerry Obasi and Frank Onwe. Speaking to reporters after the sitting, the four members said their action was necessary following the court ruling that all parties should maintain the status quo before the said impeachment, pending the determination of the substantive suit. They denied defecting to Nwazunkus camp as they were still awaiting the final verdict on the speakership of Ebonyi State House of Assembly. We were merely obeying court orders that is why we are here. We need to attend sitting to ensure proper and full representation of our constituents. This period provides a window opening for lasting reconciliation, the lawmakers said.
