Nigerians please wake up. Whilst many are pre occupied with ethnicity and religion and issues based politics, scores of Nigerian citizens are being killed every day. I have read many criticise the Western press for not paying more attention to Baga, but why should they when our own Government is silent on it and our media party to down playing it. Just over a dozen people were killed in France and it is a national crisis. Hundreds, perhaps thousands were killed in Baga and our president does not see it fit to even pause his increasingly desperate to even address it! Sending condolences to France but none to Baga. This is not about Jonathan bashing. He and Buhari both have their issues and perhaps neither is the type of leader we truly need (but maybe what we deserve). So before you start bringing politics into the discourse, please ask yourself the following questions. Firstly does the Nigerian Government care about the lives of its citizens. Secondly are they doing what is necessary to protect the lives of their people? If not why not? The north east is one of the least developed parts of the country. We have no natural resources there (yet) to exploit so it might seem expendable to the powers that be, but when a country has lost the ability or will to defend its people and sovereignty it is already becoming a failed state. So if you are a supporter of Jonathan, by all means go out and vote for him. However ask your self what you can do to make him accountable to you. How he will ensure the children you send to school will not be murdered in their sleep? How will he change the dynamics and stop this insurgency from spreading? What will he do to stop our troops from being left to die in he field. When will some of the money used for buying fertilizer and campaign slots used for procuring ammunition and supplies to our brave troops? When will the private jets and private airlines moving around the political rent seekers and lobbyists be diverted to provide logistics and relief where they are most needed? When the food and money being used to buy votes be diverted to the hundreds of thousands displaced. And if you a Buhari supporter dont smirk. Ask yourself, does he really have the tools to manouver the political landscape to get things done if he gets into power? Indeed as an elder statesman what has he done to help improve the situation being in a position of significant influence all these years? It doesnt really matter who is sitting in Aso rock if they are not accountable to and responsive to us. So my brothers and sisters please, let us not take this lightly, we are fighting for our lives. Journalists, please let the truth come out and let us not wait for foreginers to be discussing why they are not discussing our issues. It could very easily be us running for our lives tomorrow for we are Baga too. May God save and bless Nigeria
