Magies original title for the game was The Landlords Game, and she invented it to explain the single tax theory of Henry George, and to educate people about the negative financial impact of concentrating land in private monopolies. Coincidentally, the price that Parker Brothers paid for Monopolys patent rights is equal to the largest denomination of game-play currency for most editions: $500.
