No human is worth 300 times more than another. This arrogant, delusional and profoundly nonsensical discourse many Americans ignorantly believe in and go along with, speak volumes about the rampant stupidity that plagues this nation. You hear some within America’s business community talk about how their innovative qualities and entrepreneurial expertise benefits society as a whole, so everyone should thank them unconditionally for their business...when that’s not really the way that societies function, even in the 21st century. One must consider that the many arrangements which exist in societies today, whether they be social, political, cultural or economic, have more to do with historical conditions (Colonialism that lasted 400 years, geopolitical wars in the past century for example) than the conditions anyone’s company has created in the last few decades. Do I not think that companies and entrepreneurs benefit society at all nor have the potential or obligation to do well in this world within ethical parameters in the future? I didn’t say anything of the sort. Do I think that the uniquely creative people who invent salient technology which benefits some people in the world (not that it benefits everyone) deserve decent compensation? Of course I do but so do the millions of workers that help them create that wealth in the first place...and it sure as hell doesnt rationalize the obscene executive compensation that is now commonplace in Wall Street and elsewhere. Moreover, the fact that American corporate CEO’s are getting paid 354 times more than the average employee has little to do with “innovation” or “entrepreneurialship” and more to do with greed, injustice and exploitation-AGAIN, historical conditions within the socio-political and economic arenas of American society. It’s not so much that society as a whole “benefits” off your business as your business benefits off society. Therefore this type of reasoning needs to stop!
