No offense to the elderly, many whom I still respect a lot and listen to. But when it comes to empowering the youth, (a quote that is not unfamiliar in corporate or politic sector), the senior/elder perhaps should learn how to talk less and listen more if they truly believe in youth empowerment. They shouldnt share too much of their rather obsolete ways of doing things (as you can see in many Menteris nasihat). They should learn how to communicate with the Gen Y effectively. Many failed because instead of communicating, they only want to impose their nasihat and experiences, which would drive the Gen Y folks away. When that happens, they ask why?. Simple answer : one way communication by way of imposing nasihat in condescending tone is not the way of communication with the youth. youth now have their own way of thinking and facts have shown that in countries where youths leadership and thought process were embraced, institutions thrive. Everytime when government organizes youth event, and put old ministers on stage to give speech in the form of nasihat becomes an irony already. The subtle implication when they are on stage already implies superiority and condescend. Youth were to be heard, because of the different way they think. Not to be discounted as being young and inexperience. For all we know, their vast experience might just be their greatest obstruction to cope in this dynamic era where things and concept changes too fast quicker than it use to happen during their time 20-40 years ago. Shame that they didnt realize it.
