No one is doing anyone any favors by publicly lambasting a junior sailor simply for asking for information in a community that was formed for the very purpose of networking. Knock it off. Whether or not anyone likes it, Facebook, if properly utilized, is as much of an informational resource and tool as anything else and with 2.2 billion members (literally 1/3 of the global population) dismissing it offhandedly as a resource is paleolithic and antiquated. You junior sailors have a responsibility to verify any information given here as it is obviously not official and you are therefore answerable if you neglect to perform that step but simply and naively trust people at their word - but should in no way shape or form feel that you cannot reach out to your own damn community for guidance. Yes, we were taught look it up - but that was only part of the lesson. The other part that was repeatedly stated was to utilize every asset possible to complete your mission in as timely and effective manner as possible.
