No, that one goes too low. Those were the words out of my five-year-old daughters mouth as I held up a shirt for consideration while out shopping one day. She was right--the shirt wasnt the most modest choice. I put it back and we continued looking. The more I study the Theology of the Body, the more I realize that we cannot escape it. With minds, souls, and bodies that are one, every thought is reflected in our bodies and every action is a reflection of our thoughts. Shopping with my daughter blended a fun outing with some lessons that will serve her well. She watched me as I chose clothing that respected the dignity of my body. She watched me find styles that were flattering for my shape. She heard everything I said as I commented on my reflection without criticizing this wonderful body that God has gifted me with. Shopping trips like this go beyond building our daughters self esteem--they teach them that they are beautifully and wonderfully made, worthy to be dressed with dignity and style!
