Nominations for the 2014 Scottish Dental Awards show plenty of bite Scotland’s dental professionals are polishing their podium smiles as nominations for the 2014 Scottish Dental Awards continue to flood in. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural ceremony, the prestigious awards will be held at the Glasgow Science Centre on Friday 9 May 2014. Part of the Scottish Dental Show, which is taking place at Braehead Arena in Glasgow on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 May, the Scottish Dental Awards were established to showcase and celebrate the very best of Scottish dentistry. As well as traditional categories such as the highly regarded Lifetime Achievement Award, Practice of the Year and Dentist of the Year, the organisers have introduced new categories including DCP Star, Unsung Hero, Business Treasure and the Community Award. The aim is to reward and recognise the people that make a difference and ensure that Scottish dentistry remains a beacon of innovation and professionalism. The closing date for entries is midnight on 31 March 2014. Entry is free and participants are welcome to nominate as many people in as many categories as they wish. Nomination forms can be found here. As always, the more detail provided and the more creative the entry, the more likely it is to catch the judges’ attention. The full list of categories for the Scottish Dental Awards 2014 is: 2014 Scottish Dental Lifetime Achievement Award: this distinguished award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to dentistry during their career. Practice of the Year: does your practice, or one of your colleagues’ practices, show an outstanding commitment to patient care? Dentist of the Year: judges are looking for the Scottish dentist who has gone above and beyond for their patients, staff or colleagues. Dental Team Award: no matter how big or small, the panel want to hear about the best dental teams out there. Laboratory of the Year: in this category, the judging panel are looking for the dental laboratory, which has provided exceptional service to dentistry. Unsung Hero Award: does your colleague make a huge difference but not get the credit they deserve? Let the panel know and they could be our Unsung Hero! DCP Star: which Dental Care Professional has made an outstanding contribution to dentistry? Business Manager/Administrator of the Year: this category aims to recognise the business manager or administrator without whom your practice would grind to a halt. Community Award: this award recognises the team or individual who has made a significant contribution to their local community. The Style Award: from stunning practices, to the teams that are kitted out in the most stylish threads, this award aims to celebrate dentistry with style. Bruce Oxley, editor of Scottish Dental magazine, whose publisher Connect Publications organises the Scottish Dental Show and Awards, said: “The Scottish Dental Awards are one of the most eagerly awaited highlights of the Scottish Dental Show. Now in its third year, the free show continues to go from strength-to-strength. This May, more than 1500 dental professionals are due to attend alongside 130 trade show exhibitors. “The Scottish Dental Show provides a unique opportunity for all UK dental professionals, including the 10,000 Scots working in the industry, to learn about new developments and opportunities, trial and purchase the latest products and network under one roof.” There is also the valuable opportunity to gain eight hours of free, verifiable CPD. Spread over eight sessions on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 May, 24 world-class speakers will be giving talks and providing hands-on workshops. From CORE topics such as radiography and medical emergencies through to endodontics, facial aesthetics and composites, there is something for every member of the dental team. The Scottish Dental Show is created by Connect Publications, a subsidiary of Scotland’s largest contract publisher, Connect Communications, and the publishers of Scottish Dental magazine. The success of the show looks set to build again next year. With the 2014 show still more than eight weeks away, exhibitors are already booking for the 2015 event to secure the best stands possible.
