Not a confession but I would appreciate the input from some - TopicsExpress

Not a confession but I would appreciate the input from some established farmers on here. I currently have the opportunity to persue my passion and lease up to 3000 acres from a family friend in the area for $55/acre on a 3 year term. My question is: am I delusional in thinking I can succeed with a $500,000 FCC loan/ $42,000 government grant and roughly 2500 acres right off the bat? In theory this would cover the costs of decent seeding equipment, seed, fertilizer, chemical etc... Im covered in the man power department and could likely work something out for harvest and grain storage my first year. Ive grown up in a farming environment my entire life and am fairly knowledgable in this department and realize the risks. Unless Im missing something, I feel this is about the only way for a young guy to even start farming now adays with the simple fact I wouldnt be millions of dollars in debt from land right out the door.
