Not quite two weeks out from knee surgery, I am walking around just fine without assistance and relatively painlessly. I spent the first few days in a pilled-out stupor, as those who endure surgery ought to. Yesterday I got dressed and left the house for the first time, to go to brunch with Ricky. Today I drove my car. Tomorrow I have my follow-up with the doctor. Though my surgery successfully fixed my torn meniscus, they also discovered in the process, unfortunately, my ACL is torn basically to the point of non-existence from an older injury. We haven’t yet gotten into whether I should seriously consider a second ACL reconstruction surgery, or if I can meet my recovery/fitness goals through focused training and physical therapy. Meanwhile, I’m sort of officially back in the world again.
