Not reported in this article, and certainly not in any literature or any public statement by the Dont Let Florida Go To Pot coalition, is the tremendous financial conflict of interest related to the legalization of medical marijuana and the law enforcement officials tasked to uphold the current law. Law enforcement agencies, including the 63 of Florida’s 67 county sheriffs currently denouncing the legalization of cannabis, are significantly enriched by the seizure of property under The Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act, of course including cases involving cannabis. Legalization of medical marijuana would cut off a revenue stream for these law enforcement agencies, therefore they oppose the legalization of medical marijuana.
