Not sure if I should share this with you in case you all think - TopicsExpress

Not sure if I should share this with you in case you all think I’m crazy… But here goes! On Saturday, (yesterday) I went to the Pyrenees for some serious walking exercise and some more serious thinking, but got more than I bargained for. I was going to set off on Friday, but it seemed a bit late. I found a B&B and told them I would be back later. I didn’t (couldn’t) get back. More on the reason why later. I spent some time just looking at the landscape, and later decided to drive somewhere for an evening walk – I found a good spot, parked my car and off I went, so far, so good. After about 2km, my dreaded kidney stone, which I thought had gone, (it hadn’t) started making its presence known in a spectacular way. This tends to slow walking almost to a crawl. Meanwhile, some vultures – two of them, started circling me at low altitude (poor things were probably hungry). One came so close I know I would recognize it again. I knew if I could get to my car I would be okay because if I’m alone in a place as remote as that, I go prepared, ski pants, a couple of sweaters, food and water. I got to the car by the time it was dark, which I thought was better than wonderful as I have really bad night-vision. Now, you would think, just start the engine and drive to the B&B… Nope, it was too painful to do anything other than sit and wait for the pain to go away. I couldn’t get a signal on my mobile phone either. Six hours later I still couldn’t move – by now it’s pitch black outside and starting to feel a bit strange. Then there was a gentle knock on the window. After I had dragged myself from under the car seat, I lowered the window and there were two young faces smiling at me, a man and a woman, they seemed to be in their mid-twenties and looked like film stars. Now if that isn’t strange enough – the man, who spoke to me, sounded English (what’s the chance of me meeting a couple of English people in the Pyrenees at 2am?) and said ‘you’ll be fine’, and before I could reply they were gone. They didn’t have a car and they had no flashlights that I could see. Was I feverish because of the kidney stone? – yes, slightly. Was I delirious? – no, I don’t think so. Was I drunk? No, I drink maybe four glasses of wine per year. The pain went away early this morning and I drove back home. Were my guardian angels keeping an eye on me? I guess I’ll know one day! Now I’m back home, I’ll sleep for a few hours and then I’ll finish my latest painting, the windmill…
