Not sure if these maxims work better for those of us with more - TopicsExpress

Not sure if these maxims work better for those of us with more privilege (i.e. all of it except that I am a woman), but they are good reminders. “Be hard on systems, but soft on people.... In other words, to go too hard on other people, as people, is to often miss the structural and institutional roots of their (and our) own bad behaviors. Because some folks — and I have been one of them before, will probably be one again, but am trying not to be — apparently think that the speaking part is more important than the hearing part when it comes to producing social change. Also reminds me a bit of this: How To Tell Someone They Sound Racist: youtu.be/b0Ti-gkJiXc which I try to teach my students ...partly for their self-preservation, as majority people of color... but also because learning to effectively articulate what youve learned (even on a small scale with friends and family) is equally as important as learning it in the first place.
