Not too long ago, I was driving home from school and stopped at a red light. One man, dressed in grungy, worn-out, oversized clothing, appeared in front of my car and started cleaning my windshield. Normally I’d keep a bit of cash with me just in case, but this time I had nothing except sheer guilt. I quickly rolled down my window and apologized for not having any cash in which he responded with “it’s okay honey” and continued cleaning my windshield with a genuine smile on his face. Pure kindness. I quickly looked around my car and spotted a water bottle, barely touched, and with that being the only thing I could think to give, I rolled down the window again and offered it to him.The look on his face was refreshingly priceless. He took the bottle, thanked me about five times, and chugged it down in a few seconds. “God bless you” was all he could say between breaths, as a healthy color on his face started to restore. Homeless and patently dehydrated, the man wasn’t asking for much and through acts of kindness only hoped that he could get something in return as a means of survival. Let us not forget how privileged we are right now to be comfortably sitting behind our laptops, reading this facebook status. After a long day at school, I had a car to take me home, and a home to live in- that man, however, did not. Tomorrow is my favorite as well as one of the most rewarding events- Project Downtown (https://facebook/events/807466012637834/). We will be making sandwiches and then distributing them to the homeless in downtown Houston. Come join us and please SIGN UP to bring something, which I assure you, will absolutely make someone’s day! volunteerspot/login/entry/85304508061
