Notes of PRAISE 1/11/15 Weve never done that before!... We hear this often in our study through the Acts of the Apostles.... Its a statement of either an adventurer, or someone caught in fear. We have a choice set before us. Community, Church in the New World Acts 13:6-16 Taking Our Place What was happening in the new world of Church being birthed in Acts? How is it similar to our world today? Have you ever been someplace, where it seemed that someone was trying to make a name for themselves, rather than preaching the Word of God? How did you feel? The Apostle Paul meets someone who is trying to make others jump through hoops; Bar-Jesus wanted people to think highly of himself, and would skew the message that God was presenting through the church leadership. How would you handle someone who would try to bring more influence to themselves, rather than God. Here is what Paul sets as an example for us: Sit among the people v.14 When God establishes us, it is not about the position or role; it is about our heart....and changing the lives of people for the better. Paul and his entourage sat among the people, and then were asked to share at an appropriate time. Because of their reputation, the Synagogue leaders recognized the influence of God on this groups life. Paul spoke a clear message of Gods gospel. Paul humbly spoke about God..... Not so much about himself, or position, or his role. How do you handle the distractions in your life? Distractions will come.... We need to learn how to be content with Gods plan and provision. Regardless of 2) Contend for Influence v. 9,10 &15 There is value in understanding that the game of life is already won. The enemy of our soul wants us to think we are not in the game, we are not qualified, or we are not good enough. But through this message of Acts 13:, Paul reminds the other believers of the scoreboard..... Jesus has won the game already..... Now is the time we can play to have fun. Too many times, I convince myself that I am not worthy; I let the enemys message sink into my ears and heart.... I let myself get discouraged. The message here is to remind ourselves that we are children of the Most High! We are on the winning team! When we are establishing the church, we are susceptible to discouraging words. But we need to gather courage, and give encouragement to our teammates . 3) Speak Jesus Words v. 16 In Isaiah 6, the prophet shares a time of discouragement.... A good friend of his just died.... A friend who happens to be the king... A Godly king. It is in this time of discouragement that Isaiah sees a vision... Of God, He was high and lifted up.... Glorified! And from there, the Kingdom of God was established in the heart of Isaiah. What is the similar message of Paul in Acts? Is there an example in your life? How does Gods Kingdom look in our world today? Are we any different than Isaiah, Paul, or even John the Baptist? Are we trying to get others to follow us, or follow Jesus? How do you show others the message of love that Jesus is? Jesus sat and proclaimed Isaiah year of freedom.... Jesus proclaims for you... Agree with him, take your place. The final challenge of todays message: Get in Unity with Jesus about your life! Wed love to hear your story of Gods provision, or share the hope we have received.
