Notice University Literary Club, Department of Students Welfare in association with Indian Institute of Public Administration, (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch is organising an Annual Inter College / Inter University debate competition at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir on 20th December, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. In this connection, we cordially invite your esteemed institution for participation in the debate competition. The topic of the debate is: This house believes that, “Information Technology has Adversely Affected Reading, Writing and Retention Capabilities of Youth Time limit (5+1+2*) *2 minutes are alloted for the rebuttal session. Registration forms, rules & regulations and other details can be accessed at kashmiruniversity.net . Each team is required to submit single registration form. Kindly confirm your participation by 15th December, 2014 via e-mail to shahidkhandsw@gmail or send the hard copies of the same duly attested by Head of the Institution to Department of Students Welfare, University of Kashmir. Kindly feel free to call us for any further queries at - 9419087200 hence helping us to organize the event in a befitting manner. The participating teams are requested to report at the reception desk set up for the competition at Gandhi Bhawan by 10 a.m. on 20th December, 2014. We look forward to provide an enriching experience to the participants. We are certain that their enthusiastic participation will contribute to the success of this literary event. Rules for the Debating Competition 1. The debate will be conducted in English language only; 2. The participants must be bonafide students of the participating institution, enrolled for the undergraduate or post graduate courses of study. 3. Jury consisting of three judges will evaluate the performance of the speaker on the following criteria: a. Matter/Content - the logical reasoning and content presented by the speaker. b. Manner/Style - Voice Modulation (including suitable use of accents) presentation, delivery & style of speaking of the speakers. c. Method/Strategy - structure and organization of speeches made by the speakers. d. The Chairperson of the penal of Hon’ble Jury will record the total of the marks awarded by each judge to each speaker in the tabulation sheet and the Team scoring the maximum marks will be declared as the Best Team / Winning Team 4. Each participating University/College/Department is entitled to send only one team of two speakers. One will speak for and another against the motion. 5. Five Best debaters will be awarded cash prizes worth Rs. 2,000/- First , Rs. 1500/- 2nd, Rs 1000/- 3rd and two consolation prizes worth Rs. 500/- each. 6. All the participants will be awarded a certificate of participation. However, winners will be awarded with certificate of Merit as well. 7. Each participant will be given 5+1 minute to speak and 2 minute for interjection. 10. Speaking order of the participating teams shall be decided on the basis of draw of lots. 11. Participants may be accompanied by teacher-in-charge. 8. Verdict of the judges will be final. No protest or objection with regards to either the decision or the procedure will be entertained. 9. Admission to the debate will be subject to the presentation of a letter of the credentials from the head of the institution certifying the bonafide status of the participants. 12. Competitors with written debates will not be eligible for prizes. However a slip of paper bearing the points only may be permitted. 13. Please mail the scanned copy of the filled in registration form on the email id given below with “IIPA/DSW Debate- 2014” in the subject line on or before 15th December, 2014.
