Nov. 15. I am thankful for my parents. My dad was my hero from day 1. Although he worked very hard 6 days a week in his grocery store, he spent great amounts of time with me. He read to me every night and read the Sunday comics as well. He believed in teaching me responsibility....for example, I decided what time I needed to be home after school events (he taught me how to make those important decisions) and his expectations were high! He didnt say, but I was quite sure that if I made some poor decisions, HE would be making them. He valued hard work and gave me great security. He was definitely a role model....still is, in fact, even though he died from Parkinsons Disease in 1963. My mother was a stay-at-home-mom, and spent lots of time chauffeuring me around, fixing snacks for friends, attending school events. She always went to PTA meetings when i was in elem school and I thought that was the greatest thing! She modeled being a reader. She was an avid one herself and frequently talked about books to me. I remember her taking me to the childrens library when I was 4 or 5 for the very first time. I got my library card and used it very regularly from that time on. She was a great cook and homemaker. I was always entertaining one group or another and that was fine with her. I loved my home as a kid; it was a safe and secure place to be. Both parents valued college education and I knew I was headed there by age 3! The parental security and love I had from the beginning has been a positive in my life always; I was very lucky to have the parents I did.
