[Novel-Long Status Warning...] LOL (Day 4) Soooo... Thanks to my sister (and for a short time, one of my digital work-out buddies, lol) Tamika Kramer... I have been roped into this Things You Are Thankful For Challenge. Gotta say sorry that I just got the time to get around to writing it now... but, I will comply and over the course of the next 5 days, I will be publicly listing the Top 15 things that Im thankful/appreciative for in my life, and a brief why. Its Tuesdays, so heres the 4TH SET... Enjoy! (6) – I am thankful for: Photography/Pictures. As if you didnt already see a complimentary theme from my previous things Ive been thankful for so far; I completely love & live for great memories with close people & unforgettable gatherings - and Photos are the one thing that allows me to visually capture these moments forever. I may have a good memory now, but that may not last forever... Photos though, are something I can keep referring back to. Im a little old school, so I prefer developed physical photographs opposed to digital pics - as I like to have personal keep-sakes and I collect them. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I truly agree... Every photo I have tells a story, and displays a certain person or place that has shaped who I am. Looking through very old pictures is also a therapy method I use to calm down at times, and reminisce. (5) – I am thankful for: My incredible mother Barbara Del Valle. She is probably the most warm, caring, supportive, encouraging, giving, selfless, generous, busiest... albeit craziest, loudest, & persistent people I know - [More than likely where I get my annoying non-stop persistence from]. Shes able to endure alot & can turn nothing into something nice. Daddy left us a little earlier than expected, so shes had to hold it down as both Mom & Dad - and as hard as us kids have made it, she does a good job each day. She has and still comes across many hurdles in life, but she always just seems to make things work out, and stretch herself out to make everyone happy. Many of my much-regarded morals I get from her... and she raised me on some pretty awesome food & music too. Shes definitely my friend who I can count on, call to, & reach when I need cheering up. Dont play poker with her though, because shell clean you out (seen it at countless casinos), AND while her ball-handling is a little shaky, she throws a mean *elbow* in the post, if you try to play basketball in the paint with her, LMAO. (4) – I am thankful for: being blessed/lucky enough to have my Grandmother, Katherine Fortunato aka Nanny still around in my life. She has an insane intellect, has basically memorized her *thick* old school dictionary, has a sharp tongue, a stone-will, a fun little aged arrogance, & is one of the strongest people Ive ever met. This girl has successfully - went from a Slovakian who didnt know English into her school skipping her up grade-levels; lived through the Great Depression; raised a very diverse set of adventurous children; has had over 26 jobs in her lifetime; moved around alot; dealt with countless tragedies; beaten colon cancer (that she didnt even know she had) like a prize-fighter; and continues to amaze/inspire me everyday. I always like to think that I get my smarts & critical thinking from her. Shes taught me to work hard, to be diverse, learn about ALL other cultures, and not fear trying ALL new things. She also is an amazing listener. Shes definitely the Rock that holds the family together & still helps in making those hard important decisions. Her mother reached 99 years old, and her mission has always been to 1-up her mother (even with length of life), and with her drive/focus/strength, its hard not to believe that she will.
