November 3, 2014 Dear Families of Brewster School District Students, I hope that you and your family are having a happy and healthy school year and that your children are having a productive school year. The purpose of this email is to bring to your attention some recent developments in our school district. First, I am sure that you are aware of several health concerns that have been prominently featured in the media over the last several weeks including the Ebola threat. In response, we have been in regular contact with health officials to make sure that our students are as safe as possible. In accordance with recent guidance from the New York State Department of Health, we are reviewing our school’s infectious control procedures and are practicing increased vigilance. To learn more, please visit the New York State Department of Health website at health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/ebola/?utm_source=doh&utm_medium=hp-button&utm_campaign=ebola. Also, tomorrow is Election Day. Although there will be no classes for students, our teachers and administrators will be doing important work that will improve instruction and student learning in our schools. Also, tomorrow many statewide offices are on the ballot as well as various propositions including the “Smart Schools Bond.” This proposition if it passes would provide Brewster Schools with $1.6 million primarily to improve technology for our students. Please be sure to exercise your right to vote tomorrow! Finally, on December 9, voters of the Brewster School District will have an opportunity to vote on a proposed building project that would increase security at all of our school buildings, replace leaking roofs, improve ventilation in our classrooms, remove asbestos, provide additional space for student learning and much more. We are currently preparing detailed information which we will have available shortly for your review so that you can be fully informed. As always, we encourage you to share with us your comments and feedback. Please feel free to do so. With best wishes for success and happiness. Tim Conway Timothy J. Conway, Ed. D.
