Now Hiring at Prairie Paws Animal Shelter in Ottawa, KS: Position Description: Intake Coordinator / Vet Tech (Please read entire post). Job Purpose/ Summary of position: This is a blend of duties including animal care and medical management, administrative, facility maintenance, and program management under the policies set by the Director and Board of Directors. This employee is under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager as well as the Director. The requirements of this position are not necessarily limited to the functions identified on this job description as others may be added and/or deleted at the discretion of the Director. Full Time. No Insurance benefits. Salary is based on experience and allotted Shelter budget for this position. Essential Job Functions/Duties: Assists in planning, organizing, and coordinating programs that meet the principles and objectives of the organization through a collaborative relationship with the Operations Manager and the Director. Including: 1) Intake Program -- Manager the intake of animals into the shelter including but not limited to strays within our designated service area, owner surrenders, KAHD seizures, and others as assigned. Maintain records and documentation of all intakes within the shelter designated software. 2) Serve as the backup coordinator for the Adoption, Rescue & Licensed Foster Caregiver Programs in absence of designated Program Coordinator. 3) Serve as coordinator for the Shelter Animal Medical Management Program including intake procedures, vaccination and testing protocols, medication protocols, micro chipping, sterilization schedules for shelter animals, and animal euthanasia as needed based on health, temperament and shelter space availability on a case-by-case basis. Apply local and state laws regarding animal care, cruelty and disposition. Maintain good working relationship with state of Kansas inspector, area veterinarians including the Shelter Supervising Veterinarian. More Details on Duties: Implement shelter medicine protocols and policies as designated by the Board of Directors and Director.. Including but not limited to administering vaccines, deworming, medical preventatives, and testing of all animals in the shelter unless animal is deemed unadoptable. Care for the resident animals and maintain a safe and clean environment for them. Feeding, watering, and cleaning cages and kennels. Nail Trims are a must. Transport of shelter animals to assigned veterinary clinics as directed. Participate with the Director as assigned on customer service and public relations projects. Assist in implementing and attending designated shelter events and activities as assigned by the Director. Assist other program coordinators as needed or assigned. Fills in during the absence of other program coordinators as needed or assigned. Adhere to the mission and core values of the shelter in the humane treatment of all animals in the care of the shelter. Assist with reporting shelter statistic tracking including: EOM shelter activity reports and other reporting requirements as assigned. Is in charge of the program management of the Community Outreach Spay Neuter Assistance Program Research and identify most cost effective products and services in facility and animal management. Updates job knowledge by participating in assigned educational opportunities; and reading trade publications. Serve on assigned shelter committee(s): including but not limited to Community Outreach S/N Assistance Committee, Fundraising Committee, and Shelter Disaster Preparedness Committee Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership and accountability for accomplishing new and different requests as assigned by the Director Explore opportunities to add value to overall shelter operations and programs. Perform as Shelter Lead Supervisor in absence of Operations Manager or other Program Managers. Other job duties as assigned by the Director. Skills/Qualifications: Veterinary Assistant or previous Animal Shelter experience required Two years college or R.V.T. certification preferred High School Diploma Certified Euthanasia Technician or willingness to complete certification Program planning and coordination skills Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in the English language; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills Leadership Skills Excellent organizational skills Ability to manage tasks in a fast paced/high stress environment & ability to be flexible and adapt to an ever changing environment Kansas Drivers License valid and in good standing Computer skills: Microsoft Word/Excel and Shelter Management Software, and others as required Report Writing skills Strong Customer Service skills Process improvement skills for increased efficiency Willingness to acquire continuing education throughout employment as assigned Serious inquires only.
