SOPHIA BUTTERBOTTOM AND HOW SHE CAME TO BE: I think I need to tell everyone how Sophia Butterbottom came into this world. A bunch of people I worked with and I went to a comedy club one night in Lexington, KY some time in the 1980s. The club passed out little cards to get everyones name and address for their mailing list. I did not want to give my real name (same reason I never used it on Facebook) so I made up Sophia (for the lovely Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls) and Butterbottom (because it sounded better than Lard Ass). When I moved away from Lexington I neglected to file a change of address form with the USPS and I have always wondered if the people who lived at my old address were still getting mail for Sophia Butterbottom and wondering who the hell she was. Now you know my story!
