Now That You Are Married - thought #1 for Tyler and Emilie Loy: Many, many people have asked me to keep writing thoughts, and one day make them a book! I dont know how often, or how many I will write, but Im going to attempt to share some helpful and useful thoughts with my son and his bride. If those thoughts help you or others, thats a great bonus! Recently, I was at an event that had a printed program. In the program was pictures of honored guests. The program was well done. The pictures were good, but there was one problem - the aspect ratio of the pictures was off. Aspect ratio is essentially the proportional relationship between an images length and width. When you dont preserve the aspect ratio, a good picture is stretched and twisted. Someone thin looks fat. Its kind of like a funhouse mirror at a carnival. The original image is distorted when seen through a different lens. When you dont preserve the aspect ratio of your marriage, something good can quickly become something bad. To maintain the aspect ratio of your marriage, make sure you are always looking through the correct lens. No funhouse mirrors! Its easy to allow your perception to be twisted by assuming motives. Misunderstandings grow when you assume the wrong motive. That happens even in marriage. To keep the right aspect ratio, always assume that her/his motive is good and for your benefit. Always assume your spouses motive is that they want you to be the very best you can be. When you assume that motive, criticism, suggestions, and correction all take a different light. You dont take something that is meant to be good and turn it into something bad.
