Now available in our webshop Corpus Hermeticum edited by Roelof van den Broek and Gilles Quispel There are only a few copies left of the fifth, revised edition of the Corpus Hermeticum which was orginally edited by Roelof van den Broek and Gilles Quispel for The Ritman Library in 1990. The last remaining copies of this hardback edition of 2003 can now be bought for € 29,95. The Corpus Hermeticum contains seventeen treatises which were written in the first centuries CE, probably in Alexandria. The Hermetic treatises combine accounts of spiritual experiences and didactic reflections on these experiences, incorporating Greek, Egyptian and Jewish ideas. The Hermetic treatises are presented in the form of a dialogue between a master and a pupil and discuss the relationship between man, God and the cosmos. The key notion in these hermetic teachings is that of ‘nous’, the intuitive insight which unfolds the meaning of being. The translation by Roelof van den Broek and Gilles Quispel is accompanied by insightful notes which emphasize parallels with texts of the Nag Hammadi codices as they were found in Egypt in 1945. To mark the centenary of the birth of Gilles Quispel in 2016, The Ritman Library is preparing an omnibus edition of the Dutch-language Corpus Hermeticum (eds Quispel and Van den Broek), the Asclepius (ed. Quispel) and Hermes Trismegistus. Inleiding, tekst en commentaren (ed. Van den Broek). This edition will be published both as hard copy (printing on demand) and as ebook.
