Now for my 2nd Hot Topic of the day - Laybys....... I have a so called Friend who asked to layby 3 of my babies before the Reborns of Victoria doll show in November last year. As she lives in Melbourne, it was agreed that I would take the dolls over to the show so that she could see them in person and pay a deposit to layby them. She asked that I leave them with a friend of mine in Melbourne so that she could pick them up from her once they were paid off - to save her some postage. Now let me point out - there was a bit of interest in them at the show but I was holding them for my friend. At the end of the day I asked politely how she was going to pay the deposits for them and I was told, sorry the money I brought for you I have spent on other stuff so you will have to wait. So...... I came home expecting to be getting a deposit for each of the dolls. After some time and a number of messages and me re-posting the dolls as being for sale due to an unpaid layby I finally received a payment of $50 - yep, the lady expected me to continue to hold all 3 dolls for a grand total deposit of $50. I explained politely that $50 is barely enough to hold one doll - and certainly not 3! So, she agreed to just layby one baby and she chose which one of the three she wanted the most. I agreed to accept $50 per fortnight, which I knew would take a very long time to pay off, but as long as she made regular payments I would accept that - considering that she is on a low income and is supposed to be a friend. I have since received a 2nd payment of $50 (Jan. 6th) I sent a reminder last week that the next instalment is overdue only to be told, yes I know, I will send it next week. So next week has just been and gone and still no payment. So to sum it up - the doll was put on hold early in November and so far I have received $100 towards it. Would I be unreasonable to keep the $100 and tell her sorry but the deal is off??????
