Now that I have the time, let me share with my FB Friends to think - TopicsExpress

Now that I have the time, let me share with my FB Friends to think twice about staying at a Sheraton/Starwood Hotel. I just learned, from personal experience, that quality is NOT across-the-board for Sheraton Hotels. You may end up with bug bites and an overall awful hotel experience. Following is something I just posted on the Sheraton FB page: I just arrived from a 4-night stay at your Sheraton in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. I was there to attend a graduation and to visit some friends. Since I was not familiar with the area, I picked a Sheraton/Starwood Hotel because of its reputation for quality. I also wanted to spend a day relaxing and enjoying hotel facilities. To say I was disappointed is a great understatement. The hotel felt very dirty and needed a lot of maintenance work. Heres why and I have photos to prove it. Common areas: o Hallway leading to my room dark, dingy and smelly. Wallpaper & carpets need replacing. Felt very dirty. o Outdoor pool being repaired. No place to sit outdoors. o Indoor hot tub not working. o Over-chlorinated indoor pool. o Plaster on walls and ceiling in indoor pool area cracked, peeling and falling. o Ice machines did not work on Floors 4, 5 & 6. Finally had to go to Front Desk to request ice. Ice delivered some 20 minutes later by Maintenance man in Maintenance uniform. o Massage Room was being used for storage and you could tell from outside the door. So much for the thought of a massage during my stay. Our Room: o Carpets felt dirty. o Received bug bites in the room in my first half hour. I thought it might have come from the couch. I had to place sheet over couch for duration of my stay just to be sure. (I have photos.) o TVs placed way to the right of the couch so that you could not watch without badly straining your neck. Maintenance moved the couch over so that a small section of it was in front of the TV. When the couch was moved, guess what we found? Some old French fries under the couch. o No place to walk in room where beds were located. Tiny closet couldnt even hold an open suitcase. o Only one suitcase valet in a room with two beds. Had to place suitcases in sitting area - and one of suitcases on floor. o Fridge smelly and not cold. Hotel replaced it with some sorry excuse for why it was not working and smelled bad. o A second TV located above dresser in front of one bed - not centered. o More bug bites received in room. Staff suggested the bugs could be coming from a small man-made lake in front of hotel. o Nice view. Comfortable beds and pillows. This was important to me. o Toilet paper was the cheapest type available on the market. You can hurt yourself using this toilet paper - rough and thin. o Sink set up so high that every time I had to use it to brush my teeth or wash my face, I ended up wet. o Towels were clean but a few were badly stained. Staff: o No protocol for staff around guests. o Staff started spraying cleaning chemicals on windows in enclosed swimming area while I, a guest, was swimming. I have emphysema and am very sensitive to chemicals. I could not swim after that. o Staff who were cleaning the windows in indoor pool area were using blue bin with airport/airline markings to hold cleaning supplies. I thought: Did the hotel swipe this from the airport? o Pool worker dipped his towel in pool where I was swimming in order to wipe himself down. o Noisy Cleaning Staff in hallways - noisy enough to wake us early in the morning. Cleaning staff could not speak nor understand English when I tried to complain to them about the noise. Room Service: o Good coffee. o Good orange juice. o Food okay. o Drawback: no table provided - even for a large meal for two. We had to eat off the sofa. Resolution: Not really. Hotel could not comp my room because it was part of an Expedia package. Hotel did comp half of my room charges amounting to around $100. Do I feel compensated? Not at all! I work in Public Relations. You have great PR folks who do a fine job branding, advertising and selling your hotel. However, it is, to me and my family, all a big lie. I believe it is called false advertising. The Sheraton stole from me what time and efforts I had undertaken to enjoy a nice mini-vacation for myself and my daughter. I do not know about your other hotels, but if this Sheraton is any indication of the quality Sheraton Hotels now have, I will make sure to never stay at any of your hotels again and will make sure my family, friends and associates do not risk experiencing the same awful experience my daughter and I had by staying at one of your hotels.
