Now that the application for change of start and end times has not - TopicsExpress

Now that the application for change of start and end times has not been successful, we will now have the rumour mongers running amok. More importantly as a club (sporting team) we should do all that is possible to promote the positive aspects of speedway. Noise has somehow become the the mainstay of negativity, however, with silencers now having become a compulsory part of the mechanics of the machines this environmental pollution aspect has become less intrusive. As a business speedway has to comply with environmental standards, regards noise, waste and other forms of pollution. In Central Park when the bikes are warming up, possibly the noisiest time of the meeting, I cannot say that they are audible in the open stands. Distance is one criteria when investigating noise and the manner in which levels reduce over distance is very relevant to any noise argument (discussion). To take this issue of starting and finishing times forward, pro-actively, Management can of course go to the BSPA for their guidance and let us not forget that there is a Parliamentary group for speedway who could also be approached for assistance. Speedway still exists at Central Park and it is not a total ban that is being faced, merely an issue over timings. How much noise disruption is there? Vehicle movement cannot be any worse than for the dog meetings, therefore it cannot be used as a lever against the running of speedway. Street vandalism, most unlikely as the majority use private transport to get to the stadium, no crowd control issues to be faced. How much noise disruption is there? 18:00hrs bikes warm-up, approximately 15mins. Racing times, approximately 60 seconds (4 laps) with noise peaking at the gate prior to the race starting, 10 seconds? 15 races at 90 seconds say, is 22.5mins plus 15mins warm-up is 37.5mins. Say 40mins in 2.5hrs per week for 6 months. If we had 26 weeks of racing then rounding up to 45mins per race day we would incur 19.5 hours of noise. So weekly, speedway creates at most 45 minutes of bike noise over 2.5hrs. The real question is, is that excessive noise nuisance? Football nuisance for a match day, in my opinion, would create more nuisance. I would suggest that Management could put forward a much better case than I could and would be in a much better position to substantiate the facts. There is no real cause for any serious concern yet so please do not create rumour mongering.
