Now that we have voted, you will be happy to know that the attack on our public schools will be stepped up substantially. Continuing the strategy of starving public schools out of existence, the voucher program is slated to be expanded exponentially. Last year the program was capped at 1000 applicants. According to recent statements made by the 2 Scotts (Walker and Fitzgerald) we are either intending to raise the cap to 9000 or removing it entirely. In addition it is no accident that many republicans sponsor warm and fuzzy special education programs. If you look closely you will find that no funding source is provided for these additional programs. In fact the sole purpose of these initiatives is to drain funds from public schools. In this country one of the founding principles was a good education for every citizen, regardless of income. To this administration education is just another profit source. And once we do privatize the schools, then what? A good education only for those that can afford the cost of admission? And dropping accountability how long before we have custom designed schools based on your beliefs. In some schools will astronomy, biology, history and geology be replaced by the bible. Will we end up with a large segment of our population with no concept of science? Will the flat earth society no longer be a parody?
