Number Font Mystery ( first image) I have an LED clock that projects the time onto the wall, at night. On sleepless nights, I just stare at the images as they change from one moment to the next. A few years ago, I noticed that the only numbers 0 thru 9 that have the same number of LED line segments, that is equal to the value of that number, is 4,5 and 6. Each of those numbers have matching values and number of line segment, so I tried, each night, to figure out what new number font system could be used to give each number, 0 thru 9, a corresponding LED segment value? I racked my brain that whole summer, thinking it would be some sort of really complex Klingon-looking script. The idea was so simple that I missed it for a long time! The number font would be the universal font of dots, like on dominoes or dice, the represent the most purest form of the number. ________________________________________________________ The Code That I Developed ( second image) I like to break down LED numbers, on the wall at night, and think about the individual LED line segments. The highest number value that the fonts on an LED clock can go is 9999. So, a unit of a block of four numbers can go as high as thirty-six representations of the English alphabet: twenty-six numbers and ten arbitrary symbols for punctuation. There might even be a secret interpretation instruction in one or more of the four block unit states to make the code that much harder to decipher.
