O-BAHN PROJECT INVESTIGATION WORKS TO COMMENCE The $160 million - TopicsExpress

O-BAHN PROJECT INVESTIGATION WORKS TO COMMENCE The $160 million O-Bahn City Access Project, which will extend the guided busway via a tunnel below Hackney Road into the CBD will soon commence advanced geotechnical investigation works in the vicinity of Hackney Road, Botanic Road, Dequetteville Terrace and Rundle Road. As part of the major works, the busway will extend via a tunnel beneath Hackney Road from near Plane Tree Drive and under the busy North Terrace and Rundle Road intersections, providing better access to the cross-city priority bus lanes on Grenfell Street. Hackney Road forms part of the city ring route and is classified as a principal freight route, strategic route, bus ‘go zone’, bus transit link, and secondary cycle route, medium and low pedestrian zone. The project aim is to maximise the opportunity to improve general traffic flow along the city ring route now and into the future. Once the project is complete, it will reduce congestion for city traffic by diverting bus services to a new corridor, whilst improving journey times for the O-Bahn’s eight million passenger trips per year. More than 1000 bus services use the O-Bahn system each day. This project will take these buses off one of the most heavily congested parts of our city, improving traffic flows and slashing travel times for commuters. In addition to reducing congestion, this project will create jobs in construction, professional and technical services as well as material suppliers. Geotechnical testing and service depthing work will commence this month and continue in the coming months. Some traffic restrictions for geotechnical and survey work will be in place from mid July. These works will be undertaken at night, on weekends and outside peak times to minimise inconvenience to commuters. We urge motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to follow the directions of the traffic control staff and all construction and detour signs. The project continues the State Government’s decade long investment to transform the public transport network into a vibrant, state-of-the-art system, and marks the first step on the realisation of our Integrated Transport and Land Use Plan (ITLUP). Regular updates on construction progress will be available on the project website.
