OCHENDOS STYLE OF REBRANDING ABIA THROUGH SECURITY. By Chimaroke Christian There is no gainsaying that the security situation in Abia is one of the best in the country today going by reports available across the country. This is not surprising, going by the activities of the anti-kidnapping outfit and other agencies operating in the state to wipe out criminal elements, especially kidnappers and armed robbers. The security network in Abia has, no doubt, created a conducive business environment, thus, attracting investors to the state. It would be recalled that the Governor was honoured in faraway Ghana and other places for the security turn around in the State. Expectantly, the State government has cashed-in on it to woo more investors. On the strength of the aforestated, one way government has ensured constant security in the state, is the retrieval of government official number plates being used illegally. In view of this, government has set up a taskforce through its Special Adviser on Special Duties, Hon. Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, comprising of all security agencies in the state, the Nigerian Police, the SSS, the state vigilante and some trained civil servants to retrieve these number plates. This became necessary as people now hide under the cloak of government officials, by using government plate numbers to beat security agents and perpetrate crime. The benefits of this operation are numerous. One good thing is that it will help reduce fake government officials and also distinguish the active government office holders from retired ones. This will also help to generate revenue for the state as those using retrieved number plates will have to register their private vehicles with the Board of Internal Revenue to boost the states internally generated revenue. It will further bring back the dignity and respect of government and the people. I therefore appeal to the public to assist in ensuring constant security in the state as security cannot be left for government alone. Lets help Ochendo make Abia a better place.
