OCTOBER 1-3 IN ONE POST. SCROLL DOWN PLS! October 1 Security Guard Day Mk.13:34-37 Like a man travelling abroad after leaving his house and giving authority to his servants and to each one his work, he also ordered the doorkeeper to stay alert. You be alert then, because you dont know when the Lord of the house is coming; at evening, or in the middle of the night, or at the crack of dawn, or in the morning. If he comes unexpectedly, dont let Him find you sleeping. And what I am saying to everyone: be alert! There is a certain thrill when the boss goes on vacation and you are left in charge. A sense of freedom and authority, as well as a feeling that the boss feels he can rely on you. It makes you feel important. We should feel that way, because we ARE important in the Kingdom and Jesus has left us in charge. But what happens if we start running the company OUR way while the boss is away? What if we decide to take a vacation? Or have a party on company time? We had better hope and pray that he doesnt find some reason to come back early and unexpectedly! We, the church, have a great trust: the evangelization of the world. We have been given authority and specific jobs to do in our Masters absence. We are also warned sternly to stay alert for His arrival, and we are told it could be any time of day. Today is Security Guard Day. Stay alert and be about your Fathers business. If He comes today, what would you like Him to find you doing? ... Do that. October 2 Great Expectations Day Mt.24:43-44 But continue in this knowledge, that if the servant in charge of the house had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have permitted his house to be broken into. For this reason, you, too, be ready, because the Son of Man is coming in an hour you dont expect. First He tells us that we will know the season, and gives us all these signs to look for, and then He tells us that He will come at a time when we dont expect Him! It only seems confusing when we assume that Jesus gave us these signs so we could guess when Hes coming back beforehand. He does not want us to be surprised by developments in the world nor to be surprised by His sudden coming. He has given us enough to know what is happening while it is happening, but not enough to predict His coming and get lazy and comfortable in our faith. He reminds us that though we have some clues, we wont know exactly when Hes coming until His Arrival is written across the sky like a bolt of lightening. This is wisdom because it leaves us searching the Word to learn about it, but it keeps us ready morally on a daily basis. Thats the kind of wisdom wed expect from the Father. Today is Great Expectations Day. We have so much to look forward too, but with the element of surprise always there. It is on the days when we least expect Him that we should be looking up! Could this be it? October 3 Job Placement Day Mt.24:45-47 So then who is the trustworthy and sensible slave whom his master will appoint over his retinue to give them food in the right time? Blessed is that slave whom his master, when he comes, will find doing likewise. Amen I say to you that he will appoint him over all his belongings. We are Jesus slaves, bought and paid for, and we are expected to be doing what is best for His Kingdom. We are depicted here as being assigned to feed the other slaves when it is time to feed them. If Jesus returns and finds us doing what we are supposed to, then He will appoint us to positions of greater authority. We each have certain gifts, and we each have been assigned certain tasks to perform in the Kingdom. Some of us can talk, some of us can cook, some of us can sew, some can build, some can organize, some can sympathize, etc. We all have something we can do for the Kingdom, and we are expected to be doing that. We have only temporary duties down here. It is the permanent duties we are to receive in Heaven that are the important ones, and time and time again we are reminded that what we are assigned to do there will depend on what we do with what we are assigned to do in this life. Today is Job Placement Day. Think of this life as an aptitude test we take to determine what we do in heaven. Do the best you can on the test.
