OFFICIAL STATEMENT On the evening of 28th September, an incident occurred at Mercato in which a small child (whose name we do not wish to disclose) was involved. To the concerned onlookers who watched on as a three year old boy was freed from one of the mall escalator last night, Mercato wishes to announce that the little boy sustained minor injuries and bone displacement in the big toe. The boy has since been discharged from hospital and is now at home with his parents. Mercato sends its very best wishes to the boy and his family and hopes that he makes a full and speedy recovery. Mercato strictly complies to local and international safety regulations concerning all escalators and moving equipment inside the mall. The escalator where the incident took place was functioning safely and correctly and automatically stopped when the incident occurred (for safety reasons). Mercato would like to remind parents that as per international safety regulations, children under the age of four years old should use lifts with their parents wherever possible instead of escalators. Children over the age of four can use escalators accompanied by parents who should ensure they are kept away from the side panels and markers indicated. As always, Mercato strives to ensure the safety of the mall and its visitors at all times to avoid unforeseen accidents occurring. Mercato would like to thank Dubai Police, The Rescue Services, The Civil Defense and its own Security Team who did an excellent job under stressful conditions.
