OIL OF THE WEEK - This weeks oil of the week is Lemon. Its been a really tough year for the lemon this year. A frost in Tucuman Province in Northern Argentina in late July 2013 decimated an already damaged blossom crop, right at the peak of the trees productivity. This has resulted in the trees bearing about 70% less fruit when it came to harvest time. Less fruit, means less juice and less peels for oil production so as a consequence, Argentinian Lemon Oil has reached historically high prices in the world market. Argentina produces about 70% of the worlds lemons so a problem there will automatically have a knock-on affect to other producing nations such as Italy & Spain. The market can be fuelled upwards as the large flavour houses and some very well known cola companies scrabble to take positions to guarantee supply for their products.
