OK- I have finally realized that I will be 27 in a couple short weeks. While laying in bed late last night unable to sleep. I thought about a few lessons I have learned- most in the last few years- that would have made life a lot easier if I learned them sooner. So I am going to share: 1. My motto for the last 2 years has been: Whats the worst they can do? Say no? This has worked for me time and time again. Put yourself out there- do not think you are not worth it, or not qualifed enough, etc. 2. In terms of good friends- think quality- not quantity 3. When listening to my #1- Always negotiate salary- I mean always- they can always pay more than their first offer- remember you are worth it! Also remember- that yearly raises usually are not much- so negotiate at the beginning- I learned this the hard way. 4. If it is in your heart and gut to go back to school- Do it! Yes it sucks and you will be grumpy- especially if you have to work full time as well- but it is worth it- especially if it is something you love. 5. Travel when you can- It is so interesting seeing and experiencing different places. Just traveling the last two years has taught me so many things- I personally cant wait to see more of the world. 6. Be innovative in your career- Do not give in to people stating well, that is the way we always have done it. If you have a better way- share your thoughts! 7. Handwritten Thank You cards go a long way. Any hand written cards for that matter. Sometimes my worst days have been fixed by receiving a card at the right time. 8. Be Generous- Give all you can give- not just money- but your experiences and time too. Reach out and inspire others. 9. Do not live beyond your means- I am still learning this one- I am pretty positive that I could have had all of my bills and loans paid off if I learned this one a little sooner. Remember have fun- but have fun within reason. 10. One last thought- If you are 26 turning 27- You probably shouldnt shop at Forever 21 anymore- at least in my experience I can not pull it off- when you try the clothes wont fit right and you will look ridiculous. I guess I will be sticking to Ann Taylor and Macys from now on. Obviously I will learn a lot more in the years to come- but that is what I have so far- Hope it helps you youngsters- lol
