OK DELEMA!!! Looking for opinions. I have always been a dog and bird fan. Never really liked cats but was forced to live with them for many years. There is one cat I really learned to like and respect. Even though he ate my bird. Just took both of us over 4 years to get over it. I never hit him or mistreated him for eating my bird. He just knew and stayed out of sight... Seldom did I see him although I knew he was around. Any way I have had some experience with cats ... Neighbor stopped by and asked if I would be willing to adopt a cat. HUMMMMMMMMMMM and then HUMMMMMMM again. She said this one was a outdoor cat she has 3 other indoor cats. She also said it was about 9 months old and did want to come inside. OK Indoor cat is 100% NO I dont want. Now the idea of a outdoor cat sort of intrigues me. Neighbor said the cat would be ok if I just opened the garage door about 6 or 8 inches. She said we have a few coyotes running around the area so the cat needed a place to get away. OK can easily put a small pet door into the side door on the garage. Ya cats dont like to learn how to enter and exit but not extremely hard to teach. NOW the problem .... how do I keep it 100% out of the house? I like to leave doors open at times just to easily air out the house. Much easier to open 2 or 3 doors then open windows. LOL It would be very confusing for me in a way if I used the or a cat collar that works with my dogs underground wire perimeter fence. This however would stop the cat from going outside the 3/4 acre that is wired off.... if I set a mobile unit by the doors, which are battery operated... this would keep the cat out however would also stop my dog from entering.... duh no win with that idea. :( I have never had a cat that was not allowed in the house. So sort of at a loss here. Plus its not going to be easy for the cat as my dog does and will have access to the house. Ideas or Suggestions?
