OK Pigeon Friends. I just spent 5 days in the hospital with severe breathing issues. They did all kinds of tests on my heart and lungs. I kept telling them it may be from my pigeons. They wanted to rule everything possible out. Good news is... I got a good ticker. Bad news is... Doc said I have to sleep with oxygen and no more birds. Also have a pretty big assortment of meds. Well... I am not ready to give up pigeons. Went out and got a pretty nice respirator and I ordered a loft coat. I have a good friend coming over soon to help with a major loft cleaning ( I have kept a dusty deep liter method for the last couple of years. ) I will no longer recommend a deep litter method to anyone. I would like to hear from any of you dealing with pigeon breeders lung. How do you deal with it? What precautions? Is it working? I havent kept pigeons for a long time. Maybe 6 years with a loft large enough to walk in. I have not worn a mask or respirator. After what I just experienced, I recommend all of you do so. Breathing is a pretty good thing. We take it for granted.
